Department of Crop Protection
Department of Agrozoologie, Phytopathology and Crop Protection Chemistry all belong to the Department of Crop Protection. As part of the faculty of Bioscience Engineering of the Ghent University the department is particularly experienced in the study of integrated control of plant pests and diseases and the study of plant protection products and biocides.
Theme 1: Integrated control of plant pests and diseases
- - Biological control of insects, mites, nematodes and plant pathogenic micro-organisms
- - Development of rearing techniques and artificial diets for noxious insects
- - Quality control of rearing techniques for beneficial insects and mites
- - Integrated control of insects, mites and plant pathogenic micro-organisms
- - Development and implementation of warning systems
- - Natural and induced resistance mechanisms in plants
- - Genetic diversity of plant pathogens
Theme 2: Plant Protection Products and biocides
Activity and development of new pesticides
- - Research and development of improved formulation and application techniques for agriculture and non-agriculture use of pesticides
- - Toxicology and mode of action of new insecticides and acaricides
- - Physiology and endocrinology of invertebrates (focus: ecdyson)
- - Research of mechanisms and management of resistance to mites and insects
- - Use of cells of insects for the detection and identification and mode of actions of new insecticides
- - QSAR (Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship) for insecticides
- - Use of (bio)surfactants for control of plant pathogens
Plant Protection Products and environment
- - Evaluation of side effects of pesticides on beneficial organisms
- - Analysis of residues of pesticides in the environment (soil, water, air, food,)
- - Development of indicators and models for the evaluation of effects and side effects of pesticides
- - Determination and evaluation of exposure and risks of pesticides in food
- - Evaluation of exposure and drift during and after application of pesticides
- - Study of (bio)remediation systems of pesticides
